VICTOR MACAULAY

INDUCTED 2017

Victor was born in East Noel in 1889. His potential as a runner became evident when he ran down a steer on his family’s farm. In 1913, he astounded sporting circles by defeating a three-time champion in the Herald and Mail Modified Marathon. That victory established MacAulay as a champion runner and signalled the start of a brilliant career. He repeated that win in 1921, 1922, 1923, and 1924. MacAulay dominated the road race scene in and out of the province. From 1916 to 1924, he posted impressive finishes in the Caledonia Marathon in Boston and the Boston Marathon. He handily earned a spot on the Canadian Marathon team placing 14th in the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris. MacAulay’s legacy is that of a great international marathoner with a natural ability to run, coupled with the discipline to train faithfully.
